Witches and Women in Horror

In horror, we see the woman is usually subdued to the man. Her role is simply to support the man and his fetishes. She is the victim always and never the heroine. Except when witches come around.
We watch Kiki's Delivery Service in class this week and dive deep into the underlying meaning of the movie. This young girl, Kiki, is coming into womanhood and travels away from home to do that. She runs into this sort of mentor who is depicted by being pregnant.
Akata Witch centers around a girl who's obviously different from the rest of the world. She is light sensitive. She gets told at some point that she is a witch and it all starts to fall together. She starts getting these powers where she is able to go in sunlight now. She can play soccer and is really good at it due to her powers too.
