Diverse Position Sci-fi

We had a short in-class reading this week, "Bloodchild", which was really weird. It followed this family of humans that had this bug-like sounding creature living with them and giving them eggs to drink. Then the story got into how these creatures were superior and some were trying to take over and use humans at their disposal, but there was a government to protect them now? But one person from this family must be given up to this creature for them to plant their eggs inside the body and then be dissected out later. Very odd.
I started a story outside of the course reading and genre, Stephan King's book, "Sleeping Beauties". I've always loved his books and this one seemed to be one of the thickest of 600+ pages. I only got in a few chapters, but I plan to continue it over our breaks. So far, the book is so big and has so many characters in it, there is a character directory at the beginning of the book that I have to keep referring back to understand the relationships between characters. The story bases around a "sleeping disease" that seems to only be affecting women and making them terribly violent. But there is one woman, whose and an inmate who seems to not be affected by any of this and no one knows why. There is also a woman who can talk to animals? Sounds good to me.
