Space Opera/ Final Frontier

This genre usually is set up as a space novel in which there is an ending of the world in which a single person or group is trying to prevent. For this genre, I read part of ender's game. The genre started with a series of small stories in a magazine called "Amazing Stories" which was an honor to be apart of in any way and contained some of the most influential writers of the genre today.
Ender's game is about a boy who has a gift of being incredibly smart and quick on his feet. He is chosen to be apart of the military, which causes sparks in his home life with his brother and also with his fellow students. He goes off to battle school and excels with the help of a couple new friends. When he is made commander of his group, he is forced to brutally attack another member of the battle school and the authoritative figures let him off with it. Afterwards, he begins simulated training against the enemy and does exceptionally well until he starts having strange dreams, almost like he's connected to the queen. I didn't get passed there, but I know from the movies, these dreams help him out later in the fight against them.
I really appreciated this quote from our class presentation about this genre and thought I'd re-highlight it: "Science fiction is no more written for scientists than ghost stories are written for ghosts,“—Brian Aldiss (1973)
